PAPERFOLD WALLETS
With their many hidden pockets and collapsible ‘boxes’, Paperfold Wallets are the perfect place to keep small ephemera, memorabilia and keepsakes such as invitations, theatre tickets, photographs, labels, wedding ribbons and cards, thank-you notes, love letters or a precious scrap of fabric.
Paperfold wallets are inspired by the Zhen Xian Bao (‘needle thread wallet’) of the Miao women in Guizhou, China, whose mothers and their mothers before them used wallets with intricate pockets and hidden compartments folded out of handmade mulberry paper. The wallets held their needles, pins, sewing threads and embroidery patterns, as well as the occasional faded picture of relatives, an important stamped document or a doctor’s slip. Zhen Xian Bao were passed down the generations from mother to daughter.

HERITAGE PURPLE DOUBLE WALLET
Made with handmade paper in four different colours, this wallet closely follows the layout of the Chinese Zhen Xian Bao, with four decorated twist pockets, four square collapsible boxes, a double set of rectangular compartments and one full size storage area.
It was given a cover made from indigo-dyed cotton brought back from a trip to China.

MAPLE BROWN FOLD & BOX WALLET
Made in a three-quarter size, in two different coloured handmade papers, this one-off wallet shows some experimenting with a different folding method for the small square pockets. These have a folded star pattern, the two halves of which form the opening flaps. Various hidden pockets give ample space to store a range of small precious items.

A cover in russet brown shot fabric completes the wallet and keeps the contents securely in place.
